Cuadra – History and Craftsmanship in Western Footwear

History and Evolution of Cuadra

Over more than three decades, Cuadra has established itself as an internationally respected brand, recognized for its artisanal excellence, its use of high-quality exotic leathers, and design that blends tradition with innovation. Every product reflects a heritage of expert handcraftsmanship, where beauty, authenticity, and character come through in every detail.

Artisanal origins (1991–1992)

Cuadra's story begins in 1991 in León, Guanajuato, one of Mexico's footwear capitals. Building on solid prior experience working with exotic leathers and manufacturing accessories, the brand was born with a clear vision: to create cowboy boots, belts, and wallets of superior quality, with distinctive finishes and innovative designs.
Just one year later, market acceptance fueled rapid growth, multiplying production to meet demand that exceeded expectations.

International expansion (1993)

The craftsmanship behind Cuadra products soon crossed borders. Starting in 1993, the brand began exporting to the United States, later establishing a presence in Europe, Canada, Australia, and Latin America, and becoming a global reference in exotic leather footwear and accessories.

Brand consolidation and company-owned stores (1995–1998)

With sustained growth, Cuadra opened its first store in León, followed by new locations in Mexico City. During this stage, the brand strengthened its customer relationships by creating CUADRATEL, a service center focused on personalized attention and efficient delivery, building consumer trust and loyalty.

Diversification and new lines (2001–2010)

The brand's natural evolution led to new offerings. In 2001, Franco Cuadra was introduced, a line focused on dress footwear with a modern, elegant aesthetic, while keeping artisanal manufacturing and the use of select leathers.
Starting in 2006, the lineup expanded with handmade leather jackets and women's collections, followed by jeans and shirts, establishing Cuadra as a true lifestyle brand.

Renewal and a contemporary image (2007)

Without losing its artisanal, western essence, Cuadra refreshed its image to reflect its growth, innovation, and status as a premium brand. This new identity combines tradition, modernity, and sophistication, appealing to a broader and more discerning customer.

Presence in the United States (2012–2013)

International growth gained strength with the opening of company-owned stores in the United States. The first location opened in Chicago in 2012, followed by Las Vegas in 2013. These locations marked a milestone in the brand's expansion and solidified its presence in the North American market.

Recognition and export leadership (2014–2022)

Its commitment to quality and global expansion was recognized with the Guanajuato Export Merit Award 2014, which highlighted Cuadra as a leading exporter.
In 2022, the brand received the Crispín de Oro Award, one of the highest honors in Mexico's footwear industry, granted by the Footwear Industry Chamber of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG) in recognition of its track record, innovation, and contribution to the sector.

Today, Cuadra continues to move forward with the same philosophy it was founded on: honoring artisanal tradition, constantly innovating, and growing alongside those who trust the brand, offering products that go beyond fashion and stand for authenticity, pride, and excellence.
